A stopgap domain allows to create hosting if you don`t have any domain name. If you register with a stopgap domain, you will get a domain name like "loginname.u1.your-base-domain". You can create your own web-site and access it with either the IP (if the IP is dedicated) or the above domain name. This kind of domain doesn`t have any registration records in the DNS.

For POP3 access you should be using mail.yourdomain.com as your incoming (POP3) server (replace yourdomain.com with your real domain). If you need help finding the web mail system please see the related article below.

Whether you are using POP3 or web mail please be sure you are using the following format for your email login:

user@domain.com

The username should be the same as the full email address of the mailbox where user is the name of the mailbox and domain.com is the domain under which this mailbox has been created. If you are not using the full email address as your login, your password will be rejected.

Mail passwords must be initially set from within the control panel before the mailbox can be used. Please see the Related Links selection below for more information on managing mailboxes with the control panel.

HOWTO: Sending email from a web site

Sending email from a website can be done using the built-in mailer components in ASP.NET or PHP, or in ASP by using the CDO or ASPEmail components.

Regardless of the method used, the correct SMTP server to use for sending from any of our web servers is "localhost".

Please feel free to use the following sample code to get you started. These samples are confirmed to work on our servers:

ASP.NET Sample:

<% @Page Language="C#" %>
<% @Import Namespace="System.Web.Mail" %>
<%
string strTo = "sample@email.com";
string strFrom = "sample@email.com";
string strSubject = "Test Email";
string strBody = "Test Email Body";
SmtpMail.Send(strFrom, strTo, strSubject, strBody);
%>

ASP Sample:

<%
Dim objMail
Set objMail = Server.CreateObject("CDO.Message")
objMail.To = "sample@email.com"
objMail.From = "sample@email.com"
objMail.Subject = "Mail Test"
objMail.TextBody = "Mail Test Body"
objMail.Send
Set objMail = nothing
%>

PHP Sample:

<?php
$to = "sample@email.com";
$from = "sample@email.com";
$subject = "Mail Test";
$body = "Mail Test Body";
ini_set("SMTP","localhost");
ini_set("sendmail_from",$from);
$result = mail($to, $subject, $body, "From: $from");

Every web site you create in your account comes with a temporary URL that you may use to view and troubleshoot your site before your domain has had time to be pointed to our servers and propagated. The temporary URL for your initial web site (the one you signed up with) can be found in your welcome email.

To determine the temporary URL for any other site that is set up in your account, pull up the 'Web Options' screen for that domain from the control panel, scroll to the very bottom, and look for the 'Instant Access Domain Alias'. Click the magnifying glass icon next to this address to launch a new web browser pointed to the temporary URL.

You can then bookmark the page from your web browser.

How to Upload files for your site

You can upload your files using FTP, Microsoft Frontpage, or any other software that is compatible with one or the other of those protocols.

FTP:
After logging in, you will see a folder named in the format 'domain.com' with the same domain name as your web site. Be sure to switch directories into this folder before uploading your files, as that folder itself is your web root, NOT the folder you are in when you first log in with FTP.

FrontPage:
You can connect with FrontPage directly to the URL of your site, or the temporary URL (see related articles). Once logged in, you are already in the correct location to copy your files and do not need to switch directories first.

Both Methods:
After reaching the correct location, you will want to delete the 'index.html' file that is in place in your web root. Another copy of the same file can be found at 'login.html' if you need it later. This file contains logon forms for your control panel and site builder. Depending on the name of your default file, you may need to make changes to your default document configuration (see related articles).
